REVIEW
“Just remember, that whenever things feel bleak, all situations are temporary. It’s not your circumstance that determines your worth, it’s how you rise from the ashes after everything burns.” - Wendy I was so excited by the concept of this story. A dark romance retelling, based in Peter Pan lore, where Hook gets his happy ending. Too bad the story didn’t fully rise from the ashes….. First off, heed the trigger warnings. If any of the items mention offend or bother you, then do not read this. Overall, I enjoyed the modern setting and real world twist on the Peter Pan lore, and most of the banter was enjoyable. The incorporation of classic characters and props from the original was really inventive. And I love to root for a villain redemption or happy ending, especially one who presents as sweep you off your feet charming. But while I applaud Hook’s character development, I found Wendy’s to be somewhat confusing. The idea of a sheltered, naive, good girl, and a virgin, having the sexual desires described her first few times doesn’t ring true. Overall, I’d give it a 3.5/5. While I will probably read the rest of the of the series (because set completionist here), it won’t be the top of my list.
