Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down” ( USA TODAY ). Read more

REVIEW

When Lily meets Ryle Kincaid, it is clear that there are sparks between them. Ryle professes that he doesn't do relationships and Lily knows she must stay away from him. When happenstance has them in each others' lives again weeks later, they begin down a road that they both know they shouldn't go down. They slowly slide into a relationship and Lily can't believe her luck in finding such an amazing man. But underneath his exterior, there is a darkness in him that she would never believe is there. As Lily begins to understand Ryle's true nature, she runs into her first love, Atlas. It's been nine years since she last saw him, but Atlas' formidable influence on her life may be either a threat or a saving grace in this unstable time in her life. When I first read this book last year, I went into it blind without reading the synopsis or reviews. I had no idea what to expect and I certainly didn't know it was a domestic violence story. Even this second time around, this book rocked me. It took me on a roller coaster of emotions and expectations. I feel like every time I started to form expectations in my mind of where the story would go, I would be surprised by a turn in events in the book. The book ended in a way that I didn't know that I wanted. Colleen Hoover made me fall in love with Ryle, and then broke my heart when he began to abuse Lily. I have conflicted feelings about characters like Ryle. On the one hand, should I have any empathy for someone who has hurt and traumatized another person? On the other hand, how should I feel for his own traumatic past and mental health struggles. Should we be defined by the worst thing we have done? Hoover makes you really think about of gray areas and this book has given me lots of food for thought. This heart wrenching book is about love, second chances, and it will give you a perspective on domestic violence that you thought you understood. It's a must-read! Steam level: 🔥🔥½ ⚠️: death of a parent, domestic violence, suicidal thoughts
